Gaza? Zzzzz…

July 9, 2006 at 7:03 pm (Is it)

“Blacks sleep less than whites, men get less than women and the poor get less shuteye than the rich” according to research in the American Journal of Epidemiology (as reported in the Financial Times). The study of 669 middle-aged adults found white women led in the sleep stakes with 6.7 hours, with black women at 6.1 hours. One demographic the study did not cover, however, was the people of Gaza. While Israel is bent on destroying their lives, apparently to rescue the soldier Gilad Shalit, FT columnist Philip Stephens quotes Israel’s prime minister Ehud Olmert who said: “I want no one to sleep in Gaza tonight. I want them to know what it feels like.” Talk about noisy neighbours — the Gazans clearly get less sleep than all of us. One thing’s for sure, the US snores the loudest.

You know you are in denial when you can’t deny that you are in denial.
